![]() Before launching Robert Shields Interiors over 10 years ago, Robert Shields, trained in classical music and fine arts, worked as an artist, painting murals, trompe l'oeil and custom finishes for the trade. He also perfected his furniture restoration skills, employing rarely used techniques on his client’s important and valuable antiques. He combined his extensive knowledge of historical finishing methods and furniture styles with his own updated design concepts and created numerous one-of-a-kind pieces. Robert’s ability to meet and exceed the expectations of the most discerning and demanding clients made him an invaluable resource for interior designers and architects. Robert further broadened his artistic spectrum when he shifted some of his focus from the creative side of the art world to the business side. Working as an art broker—teaching clients about and assisting them in the acquisition of fine art—was just as fulfilling as painting original works of art had been; it was simply another avenue to share his passion and enthusiasm for the arts and aesthetic beauty. Years of working with the trade in these various capacities earned Robert the respect of design professionals throughout the industry, but more importantly, made him realize that he could offer people a wider, more comprehensive range of design services. The decision to launch Robert Shields Interiors was an easy one. It was the next logical step in his multifaceted career. Robert’s innate design sense, attention to detail, original design solutions and extremely high standards, combined with his artistic background quickly propelled his career as an interior designer. Whether furnishing a grand home in London, a town home in the District or summer estate in Boca Grande, Robert’s ultimate goal is the same: to draw on all of his experience and skill to create beautiful, comfortable interiors without sacrificing that which makes a space personal and familiar to each individual client.
